Local Climate Solutions for Africa 2011

Venue: Cape Town International Convention Centre, Cape Town, South Africa
Dates: 27 February – 3 March 2011

ICLEI Africa is pleased to share with you the first announcement of the Congress: Local Climate Solutions for Africa 2011, to be held in Cape Town, 27 February – 3 March 2011.

Mobilising African Leadership in Local Climate Action

This milestone ICLEI Congress provides an ideal platform for local and sub-national authorities and their stakeholders to focus on local action, both on climate adaptation and resilience on the one side as well as on energy and mitigation – within a specific African urban context. Ahead of the UNFCCC COP17 (global climate negotiations), it will also serve as an excellent preparatory platform for Africa’s local and sub-national authorities and their partners to review any UNFCCC COP16 outcomes emerging from Mexico (Dec 2010) and to prepare for participation and representivity in the South African-hosted COP17 meetings and associated events at the end of 2011.

The Congress themes are strategically cross-cutting and interlinked with a strong emphasis on local leadership, financing and accelerated integrated action at local and sub-national level. The outcomes of the Congress will feed into various national, regional (African) and global debates, events and preparations for COP17 through the wide range of partners, representatives and participants. It will specifically also focus on engaging corporate business in these local climate discussions.
